I made history. Did you? Firefox 3 is trying to get the most downloads in a 24 hour period. Currently it has just past the 5 million mark. It is just over halfway through the download day now. Will it reach 10 million? Only time will tell!! Of course it is likely that some people are downloading it again and again to get the total higher (yes there are people sad enough to do this!) but it will be interesting to see the unique IP download number!

The new 3G iPhone will be released on the 11th of July and they have dramatically cut the price of it this time. The biggest problem I have therefore (except no MMS) is how I will resist buying one when I go back to the UK. I’m hoping that the rip-off call charges of O2 (the unique carrier) will put me off!
More information about the new iPhone is available from the BBC.

This was what I saw when I logged into Digg.com this evening. 7 out of 10 top technology stories were about Apple. Damn Apple fanboys! By the way I want a cheaper 3G iPhone!! |

Yesterday I reinstalled a fresh copy of Ubuntu onto my PC due to it being an upgraded version from the Beta. I decided that I would go down the 64 bit route. I’ve heard of many stories about people having trouble what with lack of drivers and programs etc. I was prepared for hassle but after less than 15 minutes I had a fully up and running version of Ubuntu as usual. I had already tested out some potentially problematic things on the Live CD such as installing the drivers for my webcam and to get Skype up and running. Both were flawless, so I pressed on with the installation. Now I am writing from my new 64 bit os with it up to almost exactly the same state it was in before the install. (The same programs and files.) The only thing I can say is: what is the big deal? I’ve had absolutely no problems relating to 64 bit.
Why don’t more people use their hardware to it’s full potential and use 64 bit? Perhaps in the Windows world it isn’t as easy? ![]()
I have finally got round to removing the smaller size of Hugh’s Space. You may have to remove cookies and refresh the page to see the new width. Let me know if you experience any problems!
Kaweh reminded me that I had a Flickr account too. I had filled it up with photos from Mexico and Croatia but seeing as they’re on my website already, I removed them from Flickr and uploaded some more artistic shots. Let me know what you think. Below is a random selection.

Dear Elizabeth Windsor, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well as overseas territories.
It has come to my attention that in the colony of Gibraltar they drive their automobiles on the right hand side of the road. As you may be aware this is the wrong side (no matter what the word ‘right’ may indicate).
Please either force this territory to change to the left hand side of the road (the correct side) or give them back to Spain as punishment.
Thank you,
Hugh
PS: Abdicate and give your son a go. He’s not getting any younger you know.
Last night I changed a couple of things with this site. I put back in my custom header pictures. There is still a small bug when you switch to the Large view. The picture doesn’t quite go across the entire width. Also I fixed another minor bug that I found.
In the future I’m thinking of adding an Archive section back in. Let me know what you think of this and any other comments you may have about the look of Hugh’s Space. Also if you find any bugs, then let me know!
EDIT: I have fixed the issue with the picture when you select large.

It’s past midnight, so yesterday I went to Nowa Huta which was built as a model socialist city in the 1950s and 60s to house the workers of the Nowa Huta (New Steelworks). Although one would expect the usual mix of grey boring blocks with plenty of socialist architecture there is also a surprising amount of older churches and houses. Before Nowa Huta was built there were several villages which have been incorporated into Nowa Huta. This give us the chance to view some older churches and even an Abbey. I followed the Nowa Huta Route mainly and this gave me a very through tour of all the main sights. Check out more about Nowa Huta on the Wikipedia link above.
