[Album not found]

Last Thursday I joined Maria, Szymon and Aga for a ‘Croatia Reunion’ in Iwonicz, Poland. Among the highlights of this trip were a salt ‘cave’ that cures all your aliments and seeing the first oil well in the world………with oil naturally bubbling out of the ground still!!

It can’t be the oldest oil well because that is in Azerbjian. The oldest oil derrick is in Texas and the oldest offshore rig is in the Gulf of Mexico. I think those sausage-dog lovers are telling you porkies!

‘A full two years later, Colonel Edwin Drake, who perhaps had knowledge of the Polish developments, drilled his famous well in Pennsylvania, an event wrongly labeled by many in the industry as the drilling of the “first oil well”.’ According to: http://www.sjgs.com/history.html

Maybe the ones I saw are not the oldest but they’re certainly the first in Europe and older than any in America or Canada. The Americans got the technology from the Polish.
